Parking at Rice can be tricky

The day of the wedding, you’ll want to park in the underground parking at McNair Hall (which houses the Jones School of Business).

If you type “McNair Hall” into Google Maps, you’ll get to the right stretch of road, then you’ll head underground to park.

Once parked, you’ll walk northeast along the inner loop (Laboratory Road) to reach the Rice Memorial Chapel

The Entrance to Lawless is along Travis Street, a half block north of Texas Avenue

FAQs

  • The reception will be held at Lawless Spirits at 909 Texas Avenue, Houston TX 77002. It is in the same building as The Rice Apartments and the (former) Sambuca Restaurant. The entrance is behind Sambuca on Travis Street. Lawless is upstairs. If you need an elevator, please enter The Rice from Texas Ave and someone will direct you to the proper elevator.

  • The ceremony will be indoors at the Rice Chapel, however, getting to the chapel requires some uncovered, outdoor walking.

Lawless has a balcony that we’ll use for dancing if weather permits, but we will have enough indoor space at Lawless if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

  • To give yourself enough time to park at McNair Hall and walk to the Rice Chapel, we recommend arriving at Rice around 4:30 - 4:40.

  • The Allen brothers founded Houston in 1836 and built a wooden building on this site that was used as the capitol of Texas from 1837-1839. The luxurious Rice Hotel was built here in 1913 and was the tallest building in Houston. The building underwent renovations in 1998 when it transitioned to the Rice Apartments. The Rice Hotel and its Crystal Ballroom were frequented by many celebrities. Lawless Spirits at a side entrance to the building was an elite private members club, the Capitol Club. President John F. Kennedy stayed at the Rice Hotel on November 21, 1963 to attend the League of United Latin American Citizens Council gala. It is alleged that his last drink was at the Capitol Club the night before his assassination in Dallas..
